Summer Musical

While we also produce a Winter Cabaret and One-Act Play each year, the cornerstone of Upper Room Theatre Ministry is our summer musicals. Started in 2002, our award-winning July shows have been playing to sold-out audiences, so don’t miss out!

Our 2024 summer musical will be announced by the end of 2023. Stay tuned to our website, Facebook page, and Instagram page for the latest updates and announcements!

This isn’t just the Freaky Friday you remember from the movies or the book!

It’s a fresh, dynamic stage adaptation brought to life by the award-winning Broadway team of Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey, known for their work on the Pulitzer Prize-winning and Tony Award-winning musical Next to Normal.

With a contemporary, pop-infused score and set in modern day, they’ve given this beloved story a new depth and energy that’s sure to captivate you.

Prepare to be swept away on a magical, musical adventure that explores the profound bond between a mother and daughter in the most unexpected way. When an overworked mother and her teenage daughter magically swap bodies, they have just one day to put things right again before mom’s big wedding.

Freaky Friday, a new musical based on the celebrated novel by Mary Rodgers and the hit Disney films, is a hilarious, contemporary update on an American classic in which a mother and daughter really see what it’s like to be a family and experience each other’s lives first-hand, if only for a day.

Through catchy tunes and unforgettable moments, Freaky Friday explores themes of empathy, understanding, and the unbreakable bonds of family.

And in July 2024, it comes to Northern Virginia to delight you and your family with a modern, fresh take on the classic story!

Mark your calendars for July 16-21, 2024.  Online ticket sales begin end of June, and auditions will be held mid-May.
